Owner Nick Novich opened the first Nick's at Halsted and Armitage in 1977. About 10 years ago, he shut down that bar and reopened at the new location on Milwaukee, south of North Avenue.
The friendly and fun atmosphere of the old Nick's has remained - down to the legendary bullet-ridden, oversized nude painting (dubbed "Peaches" by some regulars) opposite the bar.
